IITJEE Success Story

My MOM!

It was always my mom who struggled way harder than me and I will be indebted to her for life and for what I'm today.

A little bit of background. I was in army school right from my 5th class and the school was structured to put the students into the National Defence Academy,Khadakwalsa and thereafter join the armed forces.

It was after my 10th class, that after the not so good marks in my CBSE board exams (~71%), that my mother thought it would be pull me out and even I felt that I wouldn't be able to clear the UPSC after my 12th. And the success rate of students joining the NDA too was very bad. (~ 5-6%)

That is when she too, like all the other parents wanted her son to get into the IITs. That was the craze. I have no idea still as to how she had the confidence in me. Someone who grazed through their 10th board.

I started giving my exams for joining the coaching centers. Ramaiah, Delta, Fiitjee, etc. and what not were very famous coaching centered in Hyderabad. Of course, I couldn't clear the top ones. Meanwhile my grandfather passed away and I had to visit my village. When I returned, I got to know I'd cleared one of the not so famous coaching center's exam.

For the next 2 years, I tried to study whilst having fun. But when the results came out I had barely scratched the surface. My total in JEE 2006 was 30.; highest being 19 in Chemistry.

I could not hide my face in shame. Coupled with this, my vice principal at my coaching center told me "I always knew you couldn't do it. I'd told you while joining too that you had less marks in maths and science and hence this is not your cup of the tea".

This was not all concerning thinking what my mother did for me. She got up every freaking day at 3 am, woke me up, cooked my breakfast, packed my lunch and send me to my 5 am classes. Every day for 2 years! Tears rolled down my cheeks with all that running in my mind. I knew if not for me, I had to do it for my mother.

I joined the same coaching center and adhered to no tv, no games and no entertainment for the next one year. Finally when the result came out - AIR 854. From not qualifying and 30 marks to 305/450. And then I saw the happiness on my mother's face and there is nothing more I wished for.  Thank you mom for everything.
