Problem Solving JEE Mains

First of all saying "jee mains only and not advance" is very immature to say in my point of view.
It's about learning the concepts.
Anyway, coming to the point: "how to prepare in next 5 months?"
Physics: HC Verma is a must. Finish it, very thoroughly.
Similarly your friends can suggest you all other books for Chem, Maths etc.

Try to get material on each subject from some good coaching institute, they do a lot of research in changed patterns etc so your preparations will be up-to-date.

Self-Assessment is very crucial for preparations, so do timely assessment of yours.
Everything should be just like the day of examination, no phone calls, no distraction, Time-bound exams.
First try to evaluate your answers first just by rechecking them.
then make a final evaluation of marks, Now you have 2 things to check:
1. Your problem-solving.
2. Your evaluation.
Evaluation is very crucial; "You should know you have failed before someone else tells you that!".
Make yourself strictly precise in what you think you did and what you actually did!
Quite frankly, I do not know because of two reasons. First, there is no sure shot formula and second, I myself have not cleared the exam (I cracked CAT and did MBA from an IIT) so I might not be qualified to speak on the subject.

However in my engineering days, like every other guy I did try for JEE and based on my understanding here are some of things you can do:

(1) Create a time table and stick to it without fail.
(2) NCERT books are good to begin with. Later you can move to advance material. Keep preparing short notes for quick reference.
(3) Study hard. No substitute of this.
(4) After completing a topic, practice related questions. This will help in clearing concept and identifying weak areas.
(5) Take help from your friends, teachers or anyone else.
(6) Devote yourself fully to JEE only. So see you on quora after 6 month.
(7) Perseverance and discipline are the key to success.
(8) Always have a backup plan ready (like NITs if you can't wait for another year).

Lastly always remember - IIT JEE is not the end of life. You can have perfectly good career and lifestyle even after not going into IITs.
