What inspired you to get into IIT or crack the JEE?

Well, I din't get inspired a shit. In fact, I was pretty naive at that point. But I guess the following statement "inspires"  most of the lot,

"Iss do saal khoob padho, life set hojayega!" (Just study these two years, the rest is cake walk)

I am born and brought up in Kota, hence you can understand the kind of hullabaloo that I saw around me for IITs. If you take PCM after 10th, the natural choice in Kota; is to sit for JEE.

But for whatever reasons, I did not find myself enthusiastic enough to work my ass off for such a tough competition. But then lo and behold, I heard one of my IITian relation mention the below golden line:

“IIT mein jane ke baad bilkul bhi padhai nhi karni padhti, bas JEE mein ghisna hota h”

(translation : You dont need to study after getting into IITs, the hard work is limited only till clearing JEE)

The above has been my true and only inspiration to get into IITs

Not everyone in IIT cracked JEE for a good salary. I did not know the value of IIT until I gave the JEE Advanced examination, my principal and his comments are the reason I am in IIT.

I was dragged into IIT coaching by the people around me( there are a lot of people waiting to give their recommendations once you get good marks in class 10 ). I was never serious about my JEE preparation until the end of my class 12. I took my coaching at Narayana in Hyderabad. Just like the typical students of Narayana, neither me nor my friends liked to attend practice hours and the late evening CDF hours(concepts, definitions and formula hours); so we would just jump over the compound and go home bunking the classes. One day we got a weird plan of jumping the compound after the first hour itself. Everyone decided and the entire IC1 batch jumped the compound wall. To our surprise our principal was standing behind us ( he had  heard us jump and came out). All of us stood still not knowing what to know. He started shouting at us for trying to run away and finally said " tum logon mein se kisi ek ko bhi iit mein seat mil jata toh main is LIC colony mein nanga bhagunga ". We then went home laughing at his statement; but later a question arose within me : whether I was really such a bad student that my principal is so confident about making such a statement?? Later on I started feeling it as an insult and felt an urge within me to take a revenge on P N Rao (our principal). It was already January by then; a very late time to start preparation, but still two of my friends and I started preparing seriously for JEE just to prove our principal wrong. Unfortunately one of my friend did not get a seat in IIT as he did not qualify the minimum board percentile( for AP state board it was 91.8%). After the results we went to meet the principal for the last time and some of my naughty classmates asked the principal " sir aap juthe pehnke bhagne wale ho kya?" Our principal got embarrassed and said that he made such statements out of anger and it was only for our benefit....

However now I don't have any anger on my principal, in fact I am thankful to him, after all he was the only one because of whom I really prepared for my exam and I'm enjoying my life at IIT KGP.
