If you are in this to get a deep motivational answer that will change your way of thinking and find meaning in your life, read no further. I was not extraordinary as a student and my parents were rich enough to  provide me with a decent education. I have had no hardships in life. But I want to share my journey to the IITs with you. Plus I lost my sleep at 5 am in the morning and had nothing to do.

The belief that I will be studying in one of the most prestigious colleges of the world inspired me. Atleast that's what I thought at that time.

Since the day I chose the science stream after passing my 10th board examination, I aimed to crack the JEE and become a good engineer like my father. Money or job was not a concern for me at that time. I was too young to think about my salary after graduation. Neither was I desperate to have a girlfriend at that time.

But more importantly, I realized while studying for JEE that this is what I want. Nothing else would please me than to meet my expectation. I didn't have an alternative.
  • I was really bad in English(I still am). So no literature.
  • I hated studying Social studies. The only reason I studied it was to get good marks in the 10th board so that I can get in a good high school where I can pursue my dream of cracking JEE. So, no economics , BBA, MBA for me.
  • I sucked in biology. I thought I was mugging up stuff and drawing shit diagrams which I never liked. So, no medical.
  • I can't even draw the physics circuit diagrams properly even by using scale. I am not an artist.
  • I had a programming course in my high school which I loved even though I hadn't done any programming prior to it. It seemed logical. Then it came to my mind, if I want to pursue something as a career, I would prefer programming. The intent was not so strong at that time; you know you are too young to understand what's good for you at that time.
  • I was good with maths. My teachers always told me that. I really enjoyed solving math problems from any source I can find. I also solved some math puzzles
  • I chose engineering by elimination, as easy as it sounds. I knew I will not not be happy doing anything else, so it defaulted to me being an engineer.
  • My father is an engineer. You get an affinity for what your father does. I grew up watching him do some interesting stuff which I also seemed to like. My father  is a real inspiration to me. I have watched him work hard on very hot summer days. He has to do a lot of field work because he is a civil engineer.
